Beware! Headset Maggots!

As if you didn't have enough to worry about, now you have to check under your headset top cap for infestations of maggots.

Ok, now that is a new one on me. Perhaps you should refrain from the hogies on the commute.

It's not the maggots that should concern you, it is the the rotting flesh to which they were attracted that should be of concern. it is possible that a family of itsy bitsy rodents is living ( and dying) within your forks.

Hmm. I don't know what's worse: The fact that I was sitting here eating when I saw this, or the fact that it didn't really bother me.

I must say, I've seen wasps build homes on bikes, but never maggots. That's a new one.

That's pretty ewwww.

Maybe that's the headset Alice Cooper used when he impaled the science nerd with a bike.

Crisco, not the best choice for headset lube.

I was just pointed to this post from a comment on this post of mine at my Old Bike Blog,

http://oldbikeblog.blogspot.com/2008/12/buzz-about-old-bikes.html

about finding my second yellow jacket in a frame (two different frames). They were both long dead, thankfully, and not nearly as gross as maggots. Wow.

PS--the Google word verifcation code for this comment is "porks." Delightful.
